The sudden surge did not stop with football clips. As search volume grew, TikTok’s recommendation engine began lumping disparate creators and public figures under the same broad umbrella. At the same time this sports retrospective was circulating, entertainment circles experienced their own wave of bizarre content.
In mid-2026, mainstream outlets like IBTimes UK reported extensively on unusual, cryptic clips linked to actor James Franco, who went viral after uploading puzzling video material where he insisted he was real and not an AI simulation. That online saga triggered intense speculation across entertainment feeds. Because social media users frequently run casual searches pairing first names with keywords like "weird clips," "cryptic," or "what happened," search queries for "James" spiked globally. Lookalike creators, indie musicians named James Hardy, and unrelated lifestyle vloggers suddenly saw their comment sections flooded with questions about completely different people.
